A note from Georgina Felix

As you saw in the FPAA member update in early October, we partnered with United Fresh to provide industry members the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) Training of the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance. It was one of the best training sessions on food safety that I have attended, it was so popular we might do it again before the end of the year.

Dr. David Gombas and Kathy Gombas spent two days explaining the details of the FSVP and how to comply with it. Now that our produce season is starting, I just wanted to remind you that you should have your DUNS number ready; if you have not applied for it yet you can do so here it will take about two days to get, and if you need more information about the DUNS number you can go visit the website.

As you are aware some commodities such as asparagus, sweet corn, eggplants, pumpkins, winter squash, should be FSVP compliant as of this May (2017). Some other items like tomatoes, summer squash, bell peppers, and so on will have to comply in July 2018. These compliance dates can be found here or at the attached documents (both in English and Spanish).
