Sinema Discusses Tomato Suspension Agreement, Fair & Free Trade with Fresh Produce Association
Senator worked to fix the Tomato Suspension Agreement in 2019, which protects Arizona farmers, jobs, and cross-border trade
WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema discussed the Tomato Suspension Agreement and free and fair trade with the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas.
“Our Tomato Suspension Agreement, which we successfully secured in 2019, protects Arizona farmers, jobs, and cross-border trade – I will continue supporting fair and free trade practices that keep Arizona’s economy strong,” said Sinema.
The Tomato Suspension Agreement (TSA) between the U.S. Commerce Department and signatory producers and exporters of fresh tomatoes grown in Mexico ensures that these producers and exporters sell Mexican tomatoes at or above the TSA reference price to eliminate the injurious effects of exports of fresh tomatoes to the United States. Sinema worked to fix the TSA in 2019 – this agreement brought an end to harmful tariffs on tomatoes that hurt Arizona farmers, businesses, and consumers.
The Senator also discussed her strong support and belief in fair and free markets that ensure Arizona consumers and small businesses have a wide opportunity to buy and sell products at fair and reasonable prices – supporting jobs and commerce across Arizona.
