Fresh Produce Association of the Americas

Committed to the Highest Standards
Mexican produce is held to the same high safety standard as U.S. produce. In fact, the FDA tests the safety levels of Mexican fruits and vegetables nine times more stringently than it does domestic produce. Many farmers in Mexico are using computerized drip irrigation systems that deliver water and nutrients directly to the root. This is the healthiest and safest way to irrigate, and the water used to grow, rinse, and pre-cool crops is of the same or higher quality as that used in the U.S. The special equipment that purifies Mexico’s underground and river water is most often made in America and is better than the filtration systems used on many U.S. farms.  Many Mexican growers contract with U.S.-based, third-party certification companies to make absolutely sure that their safety procedures from the fields to the packing houses are top-notch.
