FPAA Members Gather for Annual Meeting, Elect New Board Members

Members of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) held their Annual Meeting on May 14. In addition to hearing updates from FPAA committee chairmen, the group also elected board members and ushered in a new chairman. (photos available here)

FPAA Board of Directors Welcomes New FPAA President

After a three month search, interviews, and reviews of over 25 candidates from as far away as South Africa and France, the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) has appointed a new President. During the monthly meeting of the FPAA board of directors on March 4, members unanimously appointed Jesse Driskill to fill the President's position. He will begin on April 14, 2008. The board asks all members to join in welcoming Jesse to the FPAA.

Consumers Respond Positively to Produce from Mexico

A unique study using methodology developed by renowned behaviorist B. F. Skinner was used to gauge the perceptions of consumers regarding produce from Mexico. Sponsored by Nogales, AZ-based Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA), the study involved over 1000 consumers responding to a 10-question survey.

At the Fresh Produce Association of the America's board of directors meeting on Tuesday, December 4, members organized a selection committee to oversee the task of finding a candidate to fill the president's position for the Association. Former FPAA chairman Bill Sykes of The Sykes Company was appointed chairman of the search committee. The remaining committee members are: Alicia Martin of Wilson Produce and current FPAA chairwoman, Chris Ciruli of Ciruli Brothers and current FPAA chairman-elect, Martin Ley of Del Campo Supreme, Walter Ram of The Giumarra Companies, Leonardo Tarriba of Farmer's Best International, and Chuck Thomas of Thomas Produce.

FPAA Letter to Jayson Ahern, Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, Customs and Border Protection Concering Implementation Issues with Truck E-Manifest Portion of ACE

Dear Commissioner Ahern: On behalf of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, which represents more than 125 member companies involved in the produce industry in Nogales, Arizona, we would like to express to you our concern with continuing issues involving the implementation of the truck e-manifest protocols within the ACE system.  

U.S. Border Remains Open for Fresh Cantaloupe from Mexico

NOGALES, Ariz., November 9, 2006 - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has communicated to the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) that there is no current outbreak or illnesses associated with fresh cantaloupes at this time. The market remains open to cantaloupes from Mexico that comply with the protocols established in the Memorandum of Understanding between Mexico and the FDA to regulate cantaloupe exports from Mexico to the United States.

FPAA Co-Hosts C-TPAT Seminar for Mexican Growers

August 30, 2006– Nogales, AZ – The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) co-hosted a training seminar for growers in Hermosillo, Sonora and Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico to help companies take advantage of benefits associated with the Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT).  The seminars were held last week in partnership with the Confederation of Agriculture Associations of Sinaloa (CAADES), the Hermosillo Table Grape Growers Association (AALPUM), and the Caborca Fruit and Vegetable Association.
